Rainbow the Unicorn by Sadie

(This is Sadie's entry for the Reading Rainbow contest. I just want to say that the original draft of this story was way more violent than this draft. I encouraged her to edit it for children.)

Once upon a time, there was a unicorn. That unicorn was named Rainbow. Rainbow lived in the forest, the rain forest!

One day, there was a hunter.

The unicorn felt mad! The unicorn knew just what to do. The unicorn charged, with the horn pointing straight to the guy’s chest. The hunter felt mad!

But the unicorn turned, going straight into a tree. The hunter laughed. Then, the hunter got too much of the unicorn’s funniness from the unicorn, so he went away.

The hunter ran and ran, and Rainbow felt funny.

The Knight Vs. The Firesnake

Once upon a time, there was a firesnake. And that firesnake eats every kind of people thing there is. And people, food, and people. It eats dogs, glow stations, lamps, cats, toys, and all the other people things. It crunches like it is eating people. It eats bags, clothing, paper, printers, computers, collars, eyes, and chairs.



The knight comes to the firesnake realm. And the firesnake sees the knight! He (the knight) got frightened and the firesnake shot fire at that knight. The knight had armor so he did not get killed. And then that firesnake shot fire at him harder! When he did it harder, the armor broke in two pieces of every piece of that armor. And then that knight was unprotected. So, he got dead. That is the end.

Underdog Saves the Day

Once upon a time, there was a village far away. There was a horrible, horrible storm. It wrecked up the whole village and the whole castle. It was a candy kingdom. The castle had peppermints and candy canes and gumballs and some chocolate and a dog came. He saw the village all broken up. So he just did something that the village needed him to do! He fixed the whole village up very fast.

And you have got to hear the violin song of it! I, Sadie, just made it up. The end.

The Firesnake

There once was a firesnake. It was so tall. In fact, it had a baby. The baby was so so small. It can fit under a rock. Just like crabs. It has to grow a horn. And it has to grow two firebreaths. Until it just grew and grew AND GREW AND GREW until it was big and tall, and it can duck down and get neat, and take the dog's meat! And it went like, "Oop, sorry." It wasn't really mean. But it's so so dangerous that the dog was carrying his meat inside the house. Also, a mighty dog will be scared of it. And it will be brave, but it will still be scared of the firesnake.

The firesnake lives at the jungle. The end.

Hershey and her Hat and her Bag

Once upon a time, there was a black poodle. She met a Chihuahua. His name was Chi-Chi. He had a truck. And he wanted it forever. And he met Hershey. Then, there was a fat cat. He tried to go into the truck. Then, he got in the truck. And Hershey wanted her hat and her bag. Forever.

Sadie Story

Once upon a time, there was a dog. He found food. He found human food, and also he saw a human! It jumped and jumped on the human, and then it jumped and jumped on the human some more. Then he met a dinosaur! And the dinosaur met a chicken. Then the chicken went "BAWK."

Drama at the Enchanted Castle

Overheard while Sadie was playing with this toy book:

One day there was a castle, and there was some princes, then a princess came along, then the castle was breaked down. The dragon did that! And then the princess ran inside, but she couldn't! So she couldn't get in! Then she squished it through, and she got to the top! Then she jumped away. Then she got around where Snow White was, and she looked at Snow White. Then they went down the stairs and they were in the ballroom! They jumped up where the princes were, then they got the princes away. They dropped themselves. Then another prince came and his name was Aladdin. He lived on the castle. He went up inside, but someone just CAUGHT him inside -- Snow White caught him inside!!! And he ran by himself, and got where they were. Then something happened. The stairs broke down. Then they were trapped! He fell over. Then another guy came, and he jumped up, and he jumped around the world! (laughter) DOO DOO DOO DOO DOO!!! And he jumped on the stairs -- he thought the stairs were a trampoline but THAT WAS A TRAP. And only the princes know the way out. And more princes got out. But the princesses were trapped! Then they were freezing! They wanted to get out but they were about to die. Ariel said, "We're about to die!" Snow White said, "We're not going to die! Or we are. Or we're not going to." Ariel said, "We are going to die!" Ariel stared at the stairs. THEN, the princess locked the stairs up!

THEN A SHARK CAME OVER! Then Belle got the trap, and she ran upstairs where they were. She wanted no shark to come over! The shark was bouncing! Over them! Bouncing on its tail and its head! Then they hided, and hided, but she came up there, and she was scared! He's doing a flip-fly! Then, he came down, then his tail got longer, and longer, and longer! Then it got short.

Mom's Note: This is a very neat toy. Very portable. Sadie is very into paper dolls and also pop-up books, so this was like a magical combo. We found it on the bargain table at the bookstore for $6.99 though. You have to find your own shark though -- not included.
